It's been a month since I posted about what food I've been making. A MONTH! I could blame it on the black hole of the middle of the semester. I could say my energies have been focused elsewhere. The truth is some days I just have to get other shit done and by the time I think about writing about what I made for dinner I also just want to read my book or drift off to sleep wondering if the tree in front of the house will be yellow tomorrow.
But I have been cooking and baking. I do it everyday. How could I not? I think I would just as soon stop breathing. I love the way the late afternoon light streams into the kitchen. I love the way I can hear the children next door screaming "It's a cat!" when I let Mango, the dog out. My favorite days are when I don't know what I'm going to make for dinner and then suddenly I have made three different entrees and I want to eat them all.
There's been ramen and Victoria Sponge. Tiffin, one of the Queen's favorite desserts. I gave into the Negroni Sbagliato. But perhaps most importantly I resurrected my starter. She's a little beauty who has already yielded two loaves after taking the whole summer and a bit of fall off. I call my starter Helen Burns. If you're a Jane Eyre fan maybe you can guess why.
But I'll be back again soon. The autumn darkness makes it easier to sit down and spin out words about food
