June 24: Two Slices by Tony
It's fair to say that I'm obsessed with food. I think about what I'm going to eat next and when I'm going to eat it often. I also have a rule that I try to follow. If you can eat early, do. It prevents a lot of problems. Yesterday I broke that rule and there was almost a disaster. It started with the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe. It threw me into a tizzy. At some point I knew I wanted to eat pizza for dinner, but I wanted to check with Watts about what kind so after Nuala left I went to the bike shop. There I was promptly distracted by old friends who I hadn't seen in ages and one couple who had a baby- now two and a half- who I had never met because of Covid. All that to say suddenly it was 7:30pm and I hadn't eaten since 11am. I mean I had eaten some snacks, but I needed dinner. Watts knew my blood sugar was dangerously low. Like I was grey and hot and unable to make decisions. Somehow he took me to a pizza place I'd never been to where I could get two slices. They were two slices that saved my life. Moral of the story: I always need to eat dinner by 5pm.
