June 23: Cavatappi & Broccoli

Suddenly, we were starving. It happens sometimes. Actually, it happens a lot. I knew I making something with pasta, but I had greater ambitions until my hunger struck. Thankfully we had a couple of bags of frozen broccoli. I cooked that while boiling the pasta water. Then I sauteed the just cooked broccoli in garlic- lots of it- and threw on some red pepper flakes. When the pasta was done, I mixed it all together with hefty amounts of parmesan. More salt. More pepper. Everyone was happy.

This was one of the first dishes I ever made Watts. I remember not thinking he was going to be eating with me, but he was hungry and I whipped this up. Not as fancy as the steak pizzaiola I made for the first official meal I made him, but it did the trick.

The secret's in the garlic.
