May 7: Spag Bol with Walnuts, Mushrooms & Marmite
I remember the first time I tried marmite. My friend Meg was spreading it on her toast like it was jam. I tried it and was immediately repulsed. This was the same friend, however, who also introduced me to Nutella on toast so I couldn't be mad at her. She clearly had a wide range of tastes. Recently, marmite came up in conversation and eventually it was revealed that my daughter was jealous of my marmite experience and angry that she never had one while traveling around Scotland. A quick trip to the international aisle at Harris Teeter set to appease her. The result was one I anticipated. She spit it out. Immediately. So now here with are with a jar of marmite that no one wants, but I will not waste it. This recipe for Vegan Bolognese used up two teaspoons of it (which is really a lot in marmite amounts). Also, this recipe was perfect for a cold rainy day which it was. Definitely a do over.
