January 2nd: Green Shakshuka and Patatas Bravas
We double masked and went to go see Spiderman. The kids had already seen it, but were keen to see it again. When we got home we were all more than peckish. Everyone hovering in the kitchen trying to see what we were going to have for dinner. When that happens, even though it's not their intention, I feel the pressure to please. I made vague promises of meat and noshies and veggies and then wound up making a Green Shakshuka and Patatas Bravas.
I love shakshuka because it's one of those breakfast type meals dinner. It's also quick and forgiving. The potatoes were cobbled together from a few recipes, the first being a mere memory of one I used to use from a yellow cookbook titled Tapas. I don't know why I gave the book away except it was one from my early twenties in another life and a lot of books never made the journey into the next life. There are only so many times you can move boxes of books. I know that seems like a horrific statement to some, but I like the idea of passing books on eventually of wondering about the lives they lead now.
The potatoes were spicy and the shakshuka lacked the avocado because it was dead inside when I sliced in, but all was delicious and we ate well.
