A Lost Week: 1/18-1/24
Every day on my "to do" list this week I had blog. Every day I did not blog. That's how some weeks go. They become lost. I run behind my list never quite grabbing it. I reach for the practical. The things I need to do instead of the things I want to do.
It doesn't mean we didn't eat. In fact, we ate quite grandly some days.
On Monday, we made Tomato and White Bean Soup with lots of Garlic. Grilled cheese and frozen broccoli on the side. Tuesday night found me making Korean beef bowls. A quick and easy dinner after sitting in my cinder block office all day. Wednesday night found my daughter taking the lead in the kitchen making this Tunisian Chickpea Stew. It was incredible. The smells permeated our house even greeting us the next day. While she cooked I had a temper tantrum with the kitchen step stool that wouldn't open. It is currently sitting out on the curb broken beyond repair. Since I need it to reach everything in our kitchen, we need to replace it sooner rather than later. Thursday we dug out leftovers---a frozen shepherds pie. We also made our old comfort standby of Indian-sh Nachos.
And now it's Friday and I'm sitting on the couch with a belly full from sausage rolls and spinach, feta and fennel rolls. A pretty perfect recipe from Flora Shedden's cookbook Aran. We sides them up with a salad and chips. I am currently washing it all down with some wine and amaretti.
I have a vague memory that we also made some focaccia, a cottage load and an apple crumble loaf. Two from Aran, the other from the National Trust's Book of Bread.
It's been a good week.
